The Depot Wins Gold in the Craft Beer Awards

Written By: Farah Vitale

The Depot took home three awards from the 2017 Best of Craft Beer Awards. They won a gold medal, the BOCBA’s highest honor, for The Highlander Scotch Ale. The won silver medals for their Return of the Viking Barleywine and The Milk Man Stout. They beat hundreds of brews all over the country for their awards. Since Depot won medals, each of their beers will be featured on Best of Craft Beer Award’s social media for a year. They will also have a full page advertisement in Draft Magazine’s Craft Brewers Conference Issue. They will also be automatically entered for next year’s contest.

Northern Nevada has established itself as one of the country’s top brewing regions.

The Depot’s incredible three wins has really shown how Nevada is one of the nation’s top brewing destinations. The Depot is the first combined brewery and distillery in Reno. They also use brewing traditions which are nearly extinct in modern brewing facilities. So this includes open fermentation and cereal cooking of grains. They source the grains whenever possible from local farms around the area. So this guarantees the highest caliber of product in every batch of beer.

Their gold winning beer, The Highlander, is a Scotch ale with brown and ruby hues. You can taste the notes of rich caramel, fresh bread and brown sugar. Delish! The two silver winners are also unique and detailed. The Viking is a blonde barleywine noted for its rich maltiness. It has a moderate hoppiness and hints of wildflower honey. The Milk Man, a cocoa milk stout brewed with real cocoa, is aged in Bourbon barrels for the perfect compliment of chocolate, coffee and oaky vanilla notes.
