Whites Creek/Thomas Creek Mountain Biking Trail

This mountain biking loop might as well be in Montrêux’s backyard.

Thomas Creek and Whites Creek run down Mount Rose on the opposite side of Mount Rose Highway from Montrêux. Along and across these creeks run beautiful trails that climb in elevation and reach the Mount Rose wilderness. Hikers, bikers and horseback riders alike enjoy these trails because of the beautiful scenery surrounding as they trek. The trail portion around the creeks is wooded and shady, but once you are away from the creeks it opens up and the Reno skyline is visible and gorgeous. Be on the lookout for dogs as leashes are recommended but not required.

Directions to the Trail

  1. Coming from Reno (Hwy 395) head up Mount Rose Hwy
  2. Right on Timberline Rd. follow it north for about 1.5 miles
  3. Road will turn to dirt and you will cross over Thomas Creek
  4. Pass Thomas Creek Jeep Rd on your left
  5. Park at the Dry Pond/ Thomas Creek ride on your left
  6. Mountain Biking Trail starts in the SW corner of the parking lot

Trail Route

  • Can start on either the Whites Creek portion or the Thomas Creek portion
  • Whites Creek is a little more technical due to rockier terrain
  • Dry Pond Connector trail connects the two trails, so you can bike the trail in either direction
  • Make sure you take the Dry Pond connector. Even though each trail continues up past Dry Pond, it soon runs into the Mount Rose wilderness area, in which bikes are not allowed.
  • Each trail is a steady climb, but the connector trail is steep in either direction (1,000 ft.)
