Preparing for IRONMAN Lake Tahoe

With IRONMAN Lake Tahoe quickly approaching, make sure you are as prepared as possible for the big day.

What is quite possibly the world’s toughest IRONMAN course, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe takes all of the challenges of the other races and cranks it up to 6,000. Nearly 6,000 feet of ascension during the bike portion, coupled with 2.4 miles of swimming across Lake Tahoe’s alpine waters, and ending with a marathon at altitude will allow finishers to be a part of a rock solid elite group. Lake Tahoe allows 50 qualifying spots 2016 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailuakona, Hawaii.

Race Day begins on the big sandy beaches of Kings Beach State Recreation area, which is the perfect starting point for the chilly swim out into North Lake Tahoe. Following the 2.4 mile swim, the racers mount their bikes and begin the 21 mile trek through the Truckee River Corridor past Squaw Valley, into Truckee, and then rounding up around Northstar Resort for the Brockway Summit climb to approximately 7,200 feet. The course loops back to Kings Beach and ends at Squaw Valley where the riders will dismount and begin the marathon. Runners will trek along the Truckee River, a relatively flat but incredibly scenic route, before finally finishing back at Squaw Valley.
