Reno River Fest Continues

Written By: Farah Vitale

Reno River Fest went well this weekend much to the surprise of many. The Truckee River is running high and historically fast right now, about 6,000 cubic feet per second. That’s about five times what’s normal for this time of year. A very rare sight for many who have lived in Reno for years. They had over 35,000 people in attendance at Wingfield Park  for the exciting event. There was a full slate of live music, a professional kayaking competition, more than a hundred vendors, a kids village, shopping, and a craft beer area.

The River Fest is a favorite Reno event and kickoff to the summer season!

The crazy river was great for the rafters competing. Everyone, viewers, and competitors were excited to witness such a historical race and start to the summer. The River Fest is one of the biggest summer events in Reno and as the weather is finally heating up, the festival was a success.

Although it was a great time, the Truckee continues to be a concern for first responders. They’ve had several rescues already and also took care of some equipment people have lost in the river.  They don’t want people trying to risk their life for items. The Reno Fire Department’s WET team was trained for the festival. They had six people on duty, WET team members were in their gear ready to react at a moment’s notice.
