Entertaining is no Longer an Indoor Game

It’s time to take the party outside.

As you may recall, here at Parc Forêt at Montrêux, we love the outdoors just as much as the lovely interiors of our homes. And why wouldn’t we? Look around! Here in Montrêux we are surrounded by so much beauty: the Reno Skyline to the North and Mount Rose to the South. Is it any wonder why Montreux home owners enjoy entertaining outdoors?

From coast to coast, home owners are turning up the volume on their outdoor living spaces. Fire pits and outdoor kitchens are becoming more and more common in luxury home communities, and it’s clear why: they are a selling point. They may not be the final “sale point”, but these outdoor amenities can mean the difference between which home is purchased.

A suburban home in New Haven, Connecticut boasts an extravagant outdoor kitchen featuring built-in cabinetry, a full bar, pizza oven, beer tap and heat radiating light fixtures for the colder winter months. Depending on your budget (luxury outdoor spaces can range from $20k to $100k designers and builders say) there are a variety of different directions you can take when it comes to selecting the perfect luxury items for your outdoor entertaining space. Simple options can range from gas fireplaces or fire pits to round ‘Benihana-style’ grills or built-in pizza ovens, each designed with the mind-set of gathering people together to enjoy the fresh air of the outdoors.

There are some not-so-obvious options that are available as well, such as a misting system and a mosquito-control system that de-bugs your area at night, or an outdoor-safe television designed to withstand extreme weather and temperatures as low as 24 degrees below zero. Campion Platt, an interior designer out of Palm Beach, Florida even has a projector that allows him to play movies on the wall along the backside of his swimming pool, perfect for parties and entertaining after dark. Features such as these are luxurious and smart because “outdoor furniture and lighting as gone from fussy to fully functional”, said New York-based interior designer Vicente Wolf.
