Get Ready for Oktoberfest!
Written By: Farah Vitale
Reno and Tahoe have their own Oktoberfest, filled with German beer and food! On Sept. 23rd, get ready for Oktoberfest games and Bavarian music! The amazing festival helps out the community by donating all proceeds from beer sales to High Sierra Lacrosse Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports student athletes. The event has a $20 entry fee.
Oktoberfest gives you a chance to experience and celebrate German culture.
Be sure to try a variety of German craft beers at the festival! This includes Bitburger Premium Pils, Köstritzer Schwarzbier, and König Pilsener from Bitburger brewery. Also, there’s Benediktiner Weissbier and Benediktiner Oktoberfest from The Benediktiner Brewing Tradition. Other breweries include Out of Bounds Brewing, Yolo Brewing Co., Lagunitas Brewing Co., Drakes Brewing Co., Auburn Alehouse, Gordon Biersch Brewing Co., WILDCIDE Hard Cider and more. For your $20 entry fee, you receive a festival half liter mug and one beer. It’s $5 each for all other beers. As far as food, there will be many options like bratwurst sausages, schnitzels and pretzels from local restaurants and vendors.
Games and events:
- 3 p.m. – Keg Rolling Race: Roll an empty keg through a challenging course. The player with the fastest time wins.
- 4 p.m. – Brat Toss: Toss a bratwurst onto a keg, with each round adding difficulty. The last person standing wins.
- 5 p.m. – Stein Holding Competition: Two full 1-liter steins are held at shoulder height. The last person standing wins.
