Bag For Apples with the Food Bank
Written by: Farah Vitale
Volunteering is getting way more creative!
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will hold “Baggin for Apples” on October 27th. Volunteers dress up in costume, paint faces, play games and help bag apples for those in need. All kids 10 years old and older are welcome so enjoy the Halloween celebration with the family! The event is at the Food Bank warehouse from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
There will be a photo both, food, different games and a chance to donate yourself! This is the third year the event has been held and it’s been a great success so far. Following this event on November 3rd, will be the Annual Holiday Food Drive Kick-Off where you can stop by the Food Drive and they will pick up your barrels for you.
The Food Bank started in 1983 and has been growing ever since.
Food Bank of Northern Nevada serves more than 95,000 people each month, half of whom are children and seniors. Last fiscal year, they gave more than 13.3 million meals people in need in the area. They are apart of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, which has over 200 banks in it’s network. The Food Bank has been collaborating with other northern Nevada community members and organizations to get to talk about why there is hunger and homelessness in Nevada.
