8-Year-Old Raises Money to Fight Cancer

Written By: Farah Vitale

Eight-year-old Peyton Ricciardi has been spending the last few golf seasons at Somersett Golf and Country Club in Northwest Reno raising money. She set up her own stand right between her house and the holes. With the help of her dad, she collects Pro V-1 golf balls from the bushes. Then she sells those golf balls along with lemonade and cookies to golfers the pass by.

This little girl made a big impact this summer, raising $845 that will go to 3-year-old Brady, battling leukemia.

Ricciardi’s had quite a lot of success during tournaments. Last year she raised $225 for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. Her current plan right now is to get Brady’s cousins and friends to help and charge lower prices. She said that will help her get bigger tips!

This seems to be a growing trend because earlier in July, a group of kids in Mulvane, Kansas ran a lemonade stand to benefit an 8-year-old named Bailey who has stage 4 cancer. A woman named Marie Heckathorn and her kids decided to organize a lemonade stand to raise money for her treatments.

As for Peyton, we are overjoyed to see her work hard to help out and unite the community to take a stand against cancer. She’s an inspiration to us all and we’re excited to see how much she can continue to raise.
