Top Three Reno-Tahoe Spring Activities

Spring in Montrêux brings all kinds of opportunities, and although there are many great things to do indoors in the Reno-Tahoe area, our favorite spring activities are outdoors. We are blessed with clean, crisp, mountain air and bright sunshine in the spring, and for those who did not spend their winter skiing or snowshoeing, spring is the season to stretch your legs and get a fresh dose of Vitamin D.

Our favorite of the spring activities is hiking because here in the Reno-Tahoe area, we are so fortunate to have hundreds of hiking trails. From the mountain ranges that border interstate 80 in northwest Reno, to the various trails up and down Mount Rose Highway in South Reno, and of course all across Lake Tahoe, the amount of hikes to be had is vast. Being in Parc Forêt at Montrêux, we have plenty of great hiking opportunities right in our backyard, from the Parc Forêt walking path, to the Thomas Creek Trail , all the way up to the Mount Rose Summit.

Mount Rose Summit Trailhead: 10.6 miles round trip to summit

The Mount Rose Summit Trailhead is a hike for all abilities, as there are a few different hikes depending on skill and endurance level. The hike starts out relatively flat and on smooth ground, with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and the south Truckee Meadows. It then transitions into the lightly forested second portion of the hike. After 2.65 miles, halfway to the summit, the waterfall formed from the Galena Creek Cascades is clear and flowing, and it is a great place to sit and rest as you look out over the field of wild flowers, into which the waterfall runs. From this point, beginners can continue the loop back to the trailhead, and the more advanced may begin the more strenuous hike up to the summit. The hike to the summit can be a day-long activity, but a great way to spend the day none-the-less, as the beautiful views and crisp mountain air will propel you to climb the 10,776 feet in elevation.

Secondly, we love to golf! Here at Parc Forêt at Montrêux, we have the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, home of the Barracuda Championship of the PGA Tour, nestled within our community. There really is no better sight than Montrêux in the spring, as the course turns a most vibrant green, and against the bright blue backdrop of the sky, a round of golf is just begging to be played.

Last, but not least, we love spring time fishing! Fly fishing in Reno is great, because there are so many different water bodies to which you can venture. From Pyramid Lake, the Truckee River, the Little Truckee River, and the East Walker River, the depth of fly fishing prospects will keep you going all spring long.
