Hard Rock Hotel Keeps Tahoe Rockin’

South Lake Tahoe, CA will be rocking its way throughout 2015, thanks to the addition of the new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Most recently, the Hard Rock hotel was known as the Horizon Hotel, “The Ho” by locals. However, the building has gone by a number of names since its original back in 1965 as Del Webb’s Sahara-Tahoe, which was later changed to Del Webb’s High Sierra in 1983. Hotel management has also changed hands a number of times. The Horizon Hotel had been in decline for years, but this all changed when the hotel changed hands to the Park family. As it turns, out the staff and even hotel officials had no knowledge of what was to come.

The new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has over 500 remodeled rooms, a full swinging casino floor and an exciting lineup of fantastic performers. Locals and tourists alike are hoping that this $60 million addition to the state line, an area that has been struggling, will increase local revenue. “We knew the south Tahoe market needed something good to happen,” said Jon Park, whose family owns the hotel. The family is hoping the hotel will boost the allure of the entire area, so that the Lake Tahoe area will be more competitive with the ski communities of Colorado and Utah. “They’ll make a splash. The name itself will get attention. A Hard Rock opening is a big deal,” said Ken Adams, a Reno gambling analyst.

From personal experience, the new hotel is going to be a great new hot spot for night life and eateries. From the moment you walk in through the doors, grabbing the guitar shaped door handles, past the rock and roll memorabilia from Kurt Cobain and Nirvana to Elvis and James Brown, the feeling of vacation and released inhibitions is all around you. The bars and restaurants of the hotel are fun and exciting, including those not even inside! The spring and summer seasons bring a whole line-up of local and famous acts to town, and it’s definitely a place all locals and tourists alike should check out.
