New Skate Park Under Construction
Written By: Farah Vitale
A new skate park is coming soon! The Reno City Council approved a contract for the construction of a new skate park at Miguel Ribera Park. The southeast area of the Miguel Ribera Park is in bad shape right now, with weeds growing over park benches. So Powerhouse Construction will build skate ramps in that spot and help the crowding at the Mira Loma Skate Park.
The skate park is a safe place for kids to play, which is what the community wants.
Powerhouse Construction will receive a max of $340,139 from the public works fund and Residential Construction Tax District 4 funds to build. The skate park is one of a few new renovations coming up. The city council also approved an agreement with Architects + LLC to repair and make over Trainer Pool as well. This will be the first step in the City of Reno renovating the pool. It was severely vandalized in March with more than $350,000 in damages. There was electrical and plumbing equipment was stolen and the pool boiler was destroyed. The work doesn’t stop there, the city is making it a priority to listen to the community of renovating.
There was also an approval for a resolution to donate grant funds to Reno National Little League for the re-construction of the Swope Pyramid. One donation of $200,000 will come from the William N. Pennington Foundation, while another donation of $20,000 will come from Councilwoman Jenny Brekhus’ donation funds. The city is excited to be listening to the community to help make improvements in neighborhoods.
