Benefits of the Project

Before interstate 580, Nevada was one of the few states that did not have an interstate connecting to the State’s capital. With the final segment completed, Reno and Carson City are officially linked. This will significantly reduce the congestion, commute times, time idling as well as emissions released, while increasing safety and beauty of the corridor.

NDOT Director Rudy Malfabon explained, “Carson City Freeway not only helps connect our capital city, it will further connect the entire region. The community has supported us throughout construction of the freeway, and it is with pride that we open the last leg of the Carson City Freeway to the Carson City community and the entire state.”

By 2035, an estimated 43,000 vehicles will be using I-580 daily.
