Gold Dust West CEO Donates to Reno Housing Authority

The CEO of Gold Dust West, Jeff Jacobs, donated $1.5 million to the Reno Housing Authority in April. Jacobs Entertainment agreed to buy $1.5 million in housing and donate it to the Reno Housing Authority. He also purchased two land parcels from RHA for an additional $1 million. Two months later a homeless family got their own new condominium.

Jacob’s goal is to secure $2.5 million worth of affordable housing.

Maria Perry is 36 years old and had been denied housing multiple times in Washington state. She moved to Reno during Christmas of last year in hoping to find affordable living for her and her son Kaiden. At first she lived with family members but it didn’t work out and she ended up in a the homeless shelter downtown. So she applied the city’s Reno Works program and just graduated a few weeks ago. The program helps train and employ the homeless so they can move out of the shelter and off the streets. After graduating, she landed a job. And thanks to Jacobs, a new home.

Jacobs bought condominium units on East Ninth Street and donated them to the Reno Housing Authority. The Reno Housing Authority provides vouchers for Perry and other people without a place to live. She is the first of many more to be helped. The company also bought two other properties, which represents more than $400,000 of the $1.5 million. The new partnership is a huge step in helping more people in the city.
