Enjoy Baseball at the Sierra Arts Gallery

David Calvert, the Reno Aces official photographer, is featuring his artwork at the Sierra Arts Gallery through Nov. 23. The are between 15 and 20 Reno Aces pictures showcased. The oldest photos date back to 2009, when the Reno Aces first started. Calvert selected photos based on more than just great use of light and composition. He chose photos that captured the sense of each game or the defining moment of an athlete’s career. These photos portray the immense growth of the team in the last eight years.
Calvert grew up playing baseball, which became inspiration.
Although he failed at being a player himself, he found a love in photography. As an artist, failure is an experience to be learned from. He learned it’s okay to strike out. Artists find their own style and creative voice this way. This is Calvert’s first ever art exhibit, and he is so proud. He’s taken pictures of close to 300 baseball games. The pictures show the progress of the Aces but they also show his personal growth as a photographer. The gallery held a reception for the exhibit on Nov. 17 with baseball-themed food and beverages from the Wild River Grille. It gave people a chance to speak with Calvert along with the Reno Aces and Sierra Arts Foundation.
They’re the first pictures to represent the Aces’ history.
The club has made a new growing partnership with the Sierra Arts Foundation. In the spring, the Aces worked with them to create two murals painted by local artists Erik Burke and Bryce Chisholm at Greater Nevada Field. The foundation has also brought in more than 100 art pieces created by 24 local artists to be displayed in the Aces ballpark’s luxury suites. They also helped find plein air painters for live art during the games in July. Calvert also has plein air pieces on display for his exhibit.
The Reno Aces will be playing again this spring. The first home game will be April 11, 2017 vs. Albuquerque. For tickets, click here.
