BOOMing Jobs Coming to Reno

Angie’s Artisan Treats/BOOMCHICKAPOP is bringing 160 jobs to the Reno area.

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) announced that Angie’s Artisan Treat’s/BOOMCHICKAPOP, an all natural popcorn company that is one of the fastest growing in the country, is opening a manufacturing and distribution center in Reno, Nevada and expected to bring around 160 new jobs to the community over the next few years. With over $1 million invested in capital expenditures, Angie’s is expecting to start shipping from Reno this September, “it is exciting to be selected by Angie’s Artisan Treats/BOOMCHICKAPOP, as the place to be for their dramatic projected growth,” said Mike Kazmierski, CEO of EDAWN.

Angie Bastian and her husband Dan are constantly innovating their products and continuing to come up with new snack foods dedicated to being part of the healthful trend. Their popcorn portfolio contains non-GMO and gluten free options as well as their newest treat, BOOMCHICKAPUFF baked ancient grain puffs. What started out of their cold Minnesota garage, Angie’s BOOM products have gone from being sold at local events, to being noticed by the Minnesota Vikings, to being named a 2014 R&D (Research and Development) Team of the Year by Food Processing Magazine.

Angie and Dan Bastian, founders of Angie’s Artisan Treats/BOOMCHICKAPOP, have taken their kettle corn recipe from a Minnesota garage to the NFL and now they’re coming to Reno!

“With the goal to significantly grow our business, we decided early this year to start looking at the opportunity to expand in California, Nevada or Utah. In the end we made the decision to move to Reno because of its business friendly attitude to help us establish ourselves here and business incentives received from the state,” said Jon Friedman, Senior Vice President of Operations. Angie’s found their new home on Sandhill Road in South Reno.

At the Press conference announcement held at the Eldorado Casino hotel was Reno’s mayor Hillary Schieve, Washoe County commissioner, Bob Lucey, and Doug Knuth of the University of Nevada, Reno. Also in attendance was Naomi Duerr, a Reno City Council member and representative of the portion of town in which the Angie’s facility is located, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Angie’s to the Biggest Little City. With it’s successful business dealings and it’s commitment to healthy and natural foods, Angie’s fits perfectly with the vision of the new Reno. Not only that, but I happen to love their popcorn!”

“A great company with an amazing array of healthier snack products that chose our region for both manufacturing and distribution. I look forward to tasting all of their snack offerings,” said Mike Kazmierski, CEO of EDAWN.

“We invest in continuous improvement of our people and our facilities — there is always a better way and we want our team to help transform what we do, not only in the workplace, but in the communities around us,” Fieldman said. This ideal is why Angie’s wants the best and brightest minds working within the company and why they offer such a competitive benefits package to all employees.
