A new company called LimeBike might be the start of bike-sharing in the biggest little city. LimeBike met with the Reno City Council on Wednesday to present the product and how bike-sharing works. The company plans to put at least 500 bikes in the Reno area if the program goes into effect.

LimeBike will save people money and better their health.

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) supports bike-sharing after studies with 245 surveys of normal programs with docks that costs the city about $2.08 million, of which $1.27 million represents capital costs. Lime-Bike says the program will service the city for no additional cost. Since Lime-bike doesn’t require dock stations to park the bike, what do they do instead? Well, every bike has a self-lock with a GPS installed into it. So you will be able to scan the QR code on the app to unlock the bike. Once you lock the bike, the ride is then over, and anyone can grab it for a turn. If you don’t have a smartphone you can still dial a number to unlock a bike.

It will costs $1 for every 30 minutes to use a bike, with a monthly pass costing $30 for 100 rides. Lime-Bike is already in effect in South Lake Tahoe. The program is also available to companies. LimeBike’s partners get one month of unlimited rides and work closely with with them to create affordable plans so employers can have their employees use it for their daily commute.
