People Are Moving to Nevada for the Culture

Written By: Farah Vitale

Nevada’s art and culture is continuing to draw in a bigger crowd into the state. Nevada has been known as one of the biggest gaming states but that isn’t the main attraction anymore. People are drawn to the cultural events which includes everything from burning man art to railroad history.

As Nevada keeps growing, so has the arts and culture.

In 2015, a study done by TNS Global showed 44.9 percent of people in Nevada took part in cultural activities including museums, railroads, live entertainment, antiques, and ghost towns. That means in 2015,  26.7 million of the 55 million visitors to Nevada included cultural activities in their trip. They said 44.76 took part in casino activities and 31.43 actually gambled. People are coming to Nevada in search of Ghost Towns and museums rather than casinos. Nevada is becoming less of a gambling state and now is more known for it’s arts and culture.

Another growing event is cowboy poetry, which is the tradition of writing, reciting, singing and dancing to folk poetry. It’s prose of the lifestyle of cattle ranching in western North America. Cowboy poetry is growing so much that Genoa created a Cowboy Poetry event in 2010 that has been very popular. The 3-day festival has concerts, open-mic and cooking stations. Burning Man is also a huge event drawing people in. The festival is in the Black Rock Dessert north of Reno. Nevada has been working on it’s creative environment which helps drawn in more artists and people in search of a new home.
