For years, private communities have sought after celebrity golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Tom Weiskopf. Real estate buyers tend to take a considerably stronger look at those areas home to such well-known and well-managed golf courses tied to these big-name stars. Though this is still holds some truth, times are changing and it is no longer enough of a draw for the younger buyers in today’s market. Community owners are taking notice and adapting to fit this highly active demographic.

Private golf communities are loosening the reins and diversifying the portfolio of living space so that the golf course’s pristine greens are the focal point, but not the sole purpose behind individuals or families looking at a specific community. Developers are moving in the direction of children’s recreational activities, adult fitness options that span over a wide range of levels and interests, and dining at the level of a 5-star restaurant, all with a beautiful golf course backdrop.

The greens of Montrêux’s Jack Nicklaus Signature course are home to more than just happy golfers. Each year the Montrêux Golf and Country Club hosts ‘Concert on the Green’ on the Patty Sheehan Practice Hole, which draws nearly a thousand club and community members.

Across the country, luxury developers are finding new ways to draw potential homeowners to their communities for reasons other than sharpening their golf game. A luxury golf community in Montgomery, TX is doing just that. Home to the first Tiger Woods designed course in the country, this community will boast orchards, gardens, 7 miles of trails and stocked fishing ponds, as well as a movie theater, bowling alley, skate park, and miniature version of Fenway Park. President and CEO of CB&I, and a recent homeowner in the community, Philip Asherman, believes “this is so creative — it will be a lot of fun.” Although this is an extravagant version of the kinds of changes that luxury development communities are beginning to implement, it really showcases the different kinds of options that are out there. It brings them into reality for those developers and potential home buyers looking for something extra when it comes to where they decide to call home.

Other communities implementing such changes are in La Quinta, CA, and now offer pickle ball, outdoor fitness classes, and family activities such as flag football in addition to the 6 championship golf courses. At a community in Scottsdale, AZ patrons can enjoy the recently added “ranch” featuring horseback riding and luxury camping, which include full-size beds, deluxe towels, and chef-prepared meals. They also recently offer 15 miles of hiking trails and large areas designed for youth activities.

Here in Montrêux, we are centered around the only Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course in Northern Nevada. However, we are not to be overlooked when it comes to exciting and innovative activities for club and community members. Spring, summer and fall golfers can play the beautiful 18 holes (we have one of the longest golf seasons in the region spanning from April 1 to mid-November), but there are other ways that patrons utilize the course. On Montrêux’s 18th Green is the storied lake in which kids and adults alike can relax, picnic, and even fish! Local hatcheries stock the pond with mid to large Rainbow trout, exclusively for our community’s residents. Throughout the seasons (after golf hours) people can be spotted on picnic blankets and folding chairs enjoying great company and the gorgeous sunset over Mount Rose. Complimented by amazing food, Montrêux hosts a ‘Concert on the Green’ which draws nearly a thousand people each year.

The warmer months are not the only times that the course can be enjoyed, however. All throughout the winter, when snow falls in Montrêux, club and community members can be seen snow shoeing, cross-country skiing and even sledding across the glimmering blanket of snowfall.

Along with all of the terrific benefits of the pristine course, Montrêux boasts an amazing 5-star worthy restaurant, as well as a state of the art fitness center, pool and tennis courts. At the Clubhouse, Chef Chris Nealon has revamped and refreshed the menu and constantly has new items available for members’ taste buds. Steak and Martini’s, holiday themes, and family nights are some of the many features members have the privilege of enjoying. Next door at the fitness center, sports members can “climb Mount Everest” on the brand new Jacob’s Ladder, or take classes such as yoga, pilates, and spinning. The pool can be enjoyed casually, or classes are available for kids and adults, and the same goes for the tennis and sport courts (pickle ball included)! With the added bonus of a full sports court, for basketball or volleyball, the clubhouse, pool, sport courts and fitness center, the Montrêux Clubhouse is making sure it’s community gets to enjoy the Montrêux lifestyle, rather than just amazing golfing.
