Virginia City to Kickoff Hot August Nights 2015

This 29th annual classic car festival is moving it’s kickoff weekend from South Lake Tahoe to Virginia City.

For the last four years, the kickoff weekend to the region’s largest special event, Hot August Nights, has been in South Lake Tahoe, California. Tony Marini, executive director of Hot August Nights says that they have loved partnering with South Lake Tahoe, but it just makes more sense to have the event in Virginia City due to its closer proximity to Reno. “Virginia City adds to the nostalgia feel”, Marini stated.

Denny Dotson, tourism director for the Virginia City Tourism Commission, believes that the event will continue to grow in size and popularity by naming Virginia City as the “official kickoff location.”

This ever popular music and classic car festival is getting a great start the weekend of July 31 – August 1. Car cruising, live music and entertainment, a celebrity “Show-N-Shine” and a poker run will all make the kickoff weekend one to remember. Tony Marini is excited for the move to Virginia City, as the city is “opening up their main street for cruising both nights.” Not only are those with Hot August Nights excited for the change, but Virginia City business owners are looking forward to the influx of customers and traffic as well. Though the city sees a large amount of participation for the event each year, this change of scenery will greatly increase the amount of patrons for 2015.

Hot August Nights is one of the region’s largest special events and brings in thousands of participants and attendees each year. This year’s 29th annual show should be no different.
