Technology Improvements for the Reno-Tahoe Airport
Written By: Farah Vitale
There are many new tech advancements for air travel and airports. Now there is new technology that measures the amount of moisture on runways in real time. They give the information to pilots who adjust the braking of their aircraft accordingly. Planes, like cars, take longer to come to a stop after a storm because of the wet runway. The Reno-Tahoe Airport is working to make these more minor changes that will make life easier for fliers.
There are more tech improvements to come for the airport.
The airport facilities in the Reno-Sparks area have new and exciting research into drones. Drones have started changing the way businesses conduct themselves. A big question is how will drones flying all over the sky co-exist with airplanes? Right now, drones are being tested in a remote corner of Reno-Stead Airport. Researchers from private companies, government agencies and schools such as the University of Nevada, Reno, are testing the drones there. They are also developing technology to allow them to be used safely in congested airspaces.
Northern Nevada has four years of experience as one of the designated test areas for drone technology. It has also created many entrepreneurs, researchers and tech experts that are working to make drones a new industry in this region. There’s no doubt that soon drones will be flying safely with planes and we will soon see new break throughs in Nevada. The Reno-Tahoe Airport keeps proving they truly invest in the improved safety and convenience for travelers while providing growing tech innovation.
