Solar Energy Facility Coming to Reno

Written By: Farah Vitale

Reno will soon open a 60 megawatt solar energy facility in the Reno Tech Park. The 2,200 acre data center campus is just 18 miles east of Reno. It was developed by Unique Infrastructure Group, and also has an Apple data center campus.

The solar energy project will start construction this year and produce solar energy in 2018.

The project is an exciting new add-on to the growing tech park. It’s called the Turquoise Solar Energy Project. A firm called Unique Infrastructure Group developed the Reno Tech Park. But the new project is a joint development of Estuary Capital Advisors, a renewable development firm based in San Francisco and Reno, and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas. Estuary, a renewable development firm based in San Fran and Reno, will be crucial in the success of the project. They have more than 20 years of practice in developing, investing in, and helping big energy projects. And Sumitomo is a trade, marketing and investing office that partners with ventures throughout the region. So they have a lot of global experience as operators and owners of energy projects.

The new 60 MW Solar power building will provide on-site, utility-scale renewable energy resources inside the data center campus. The project obtained its special use permit in July of 2015. They finished buying the 500 acres in the Reno Tech Park in June of 2017. The park keeps on growing and brings more jobs and businesses into the city. Therefore the biggest little city is yet again making break-through’s.
