Reno Needs Blood Donations

Written By: Farah Vitale

United Blood Services is in need of blood donations! Their inventory for Reno has dipped significantly and  has dipped significantly so the organization intends to get 1,000 donations by July 4. Long holiday weekends can make blood collection a challenge, especially true during the summer. That’s why UBS is working to change that.

United Blood Services has a goal to reach 1000 donations by July 4th.

United Blood Services will hold a sweepstakes for anyone who donates to centers in the area. This includes Reno, Sparks and Carson City or at mobile area blood drives by Sept. 5. Once you donate, you will be entered into a drawing for a Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle, courtesy of Chester’s Reno Harley-Davidson. United Blood Services is a nonprofit community blood center, providing blood and blood products for local area hospitals throughout the United States.

To schedule a donation, visit bloodhero.com or call (800) 696-4484. Donors must be at least 16 years old, 110 pounds and in good health. Every blood donation begins with an interview and a brief medical exam. The interviewer will take down the your personal information, including medical history, current health status, medications and travel history. To speed up this process, you can download a Blood Donor Qualifications Form here, fill it out, and bring it to your donation appointment. Next they will take your temperature, blood pressure, pulse and blood hemoglobin level. Many donors consider this mini-physical an added bonus! If everything checks out after your interview and physical, you are ready to donate!
