Reno is One of America’s Top 25 Best Cities

Written By: Farah Vitale

According to Outside magazine, Reno is one of America’s top 25 best cities ever! Reno made the list along with: Seattle; Kansas City; Bend, Ore; Portland, Maine; Bishop, Calif.; Austin, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Kona, Hawaii; Fort Collins, Colo.; and Spearfish, S.D.

Here’s why people they love Reno:

1. We have a ton of water.

Unlike many cities, Reno is nearby to some amazing rivers and lakes. We are only 45 minutes from the largest alpine lake in North America, Lake Tahoe. On top of that we have the Truckee River, in the heart of downtown and Pyramid Lake. Not bad at all.

2. We have events every week.

There’s always something to look forward to while in Reno. Summer is prime time for Reno events. We have Artown during the whole month of July, Food Truck Fridays, the Reno Rodeo and more. There’s also weekly events all year long so there’s always something to do!

3. Our sunsets, are basically amazing.

Most Reno residents probably overlook our sunsets filled with pinks, purples, reds, oranges, but this is not common everywhere. A summer sunset Reno can keep you completely memorized.

4. You can ski, fish, hike, all in one day!

Northern Nevada is one of the few places where you can ski (water and/or snow), fish, hike and golf all in the same day. Most people are lucky if they get to do one or two of those activities in a weekend.

5. We have all four seasons.

Sometimes all in one day. But there are few places that you get a complete snow storm with 6 inches of snow and 95 degree day a few days later. But this bipolar weather gives you the best of both worlds.

6. It never takes more than 30 minutes on the freeway.

No matter where you live or work, if you take 1-80 or 395, you can get from one side of the town to the other in 15-20 minutes. Sometimes traffic can get backed up with accidents, but compared to LA, Seattle other cities, this is a breeze.

7. The University of Nevada, Reno is amazing.

Our Tier 1 University is absolutely beautiful. Not many colleges look as stunning as UNR on a fall day.  A number of Hollywood films were set on UNR’s campus in the 1940s-50s because it was an idyllic, movie-quality location.

8. A great place for entrepreneurs and innovation.

In recent years, the town has become more defined by its entrepreneurial spirit and quirkiness, thanks in part to the development of midtown.

9.We’re not too big of a city, but not too small either.

We get the perks of living in a big city (plenty of events and festivals to attend) without the downside of traffic, pollution, and overcrowding.
