New Evans Avenue Project Begins Connecting UNR to Downtown
Written By: Farah Vitale
The new Evans Avenue Project is now in progress! They are working on improving the pedestrian and bicycle access along the street from downtown to UNR easier. According to the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County on Tuesday, crews will be adding bike lanes and a new multi-use path along Evans Avenue.
The project will start on Evans near the Greater Nevada Field.
The project starts on Evans and extends north around the east side of the University of Nevada, Reno and McCarran Boulevard. The Bicycle-Pedestrian Master Plan and the ADA Transition Plan states changes from a multi-use path, new bike lanes, to a bike climbing lane. The total project will cost around $1,350,000 and has been approved. Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) will be funding the Evans Avenue project.
Crews have begun electrical work. They will stop construction once UNR is back in session and they will start working again in March. The northbound lane on Evans from Jodi Drive to Enterprise Road closed on Friday, Jan. 19 and a detour is setup on Highland Avenue. Stay tuned-in to your local news for more possible road closures.
The final result of the plan will help walkabilty in Reno and also keep UNR students linked to downtown and vice versa. The goal is unifying our Biggest Little City.
