Ready, set, paint!

The Circus Circus hotel casino is accepting artist submissions to compete in a 24-hour Mural Marathon. The selected artists will paint an original mural in a panel on the Virginia Street side of the Circus Circus. The panel is 19’7” wide by 14 feet high. They’re are three prizes: $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second and $500 for third. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. on July 15 and end at 10 a.m. on July 16. There will be a special panel of judges to pick and place all the winners.

Besides the cash prizes, all the murals will stay on the Circus wall for a year.

The number of competitors will depend on the number of entries submitted. Each artist will get to use $750 to pay for the paint and materials they use. Any artist from around the country can enter to compete. The artists may submit no more than two original concepts. The concept they submit does not have to be complete but it should clearly show what they’re finished piece would look like. All artists must submit their submissions electronically by 12 a.m. on April 21 using Wetransfer.com to masonv@eldoradoreno.com.

This will be the fourth annual event for Circus Circus Reno and of course, it’s also part of the summer Artown festival. People are invited to watch the competing artists live at work as well as watch the exciting final awards ceremony. There will be areas on Virginia Street for people to watch along with music, food and art vendors.
