Artown Recieves Recognition From National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowments of the Arts Chairman, Jane Chu, gave Artown a $25,000 grant for the July 2017 festival. Five organizations in Nevada Art Works grant in Nevada, and only two in Northern Nevada. This is their fifth consecutive award from the NEAC, so it shows how much of an impact Artown has made in the community. So far, she has given more than $30 million in grants in the Art Works category for 2017. The Art Works category focuses on “the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.”
This is an opportunity for Artown to be bigger and inspire more art.
Artown is now getting the limelight it deserves for spreading art, joy and creative thinking in our streets. The art event has driven more artists into Reno and inspired more people to become an artist. Artown has more than 500 events and begins again July 1st and lasts the entire month. YThe Biggest Little City has even adopted the logo “Reno is Artown.” We celebrate art all month long, not just a month. This is truer everyday as local artists create murals and cover blight with art, such as the burning man sculptures.
As you drive through downtown and midtown Reno, it’s becoming harder to not find art. The events are sure to be great this year and it makes everyday exciting and new in the summer. Truly something to celebrate.
